We've built our team around reliability and accountability. One designer making your selections, one project manager running your jobsite, one point of contact keeping you in the loop. A fifth-generation Arroyo Grande local, Nate co-founded SLObispo Remodelers with Manuel Sousa. He has a diverse background in Christian education, ministry, and mission work, combined with over six years of journeyman-level experience in residential construction. Nate is passionate about building both homes and relationships. He and his wife Kate are raising their four children here in the community.

With over 40 years of hands-on construction experience, Manuel is a master of the trades known for solving complex challenges with skill and precision. A lifelong general contractor, he leads custom home builds, remodels, and crew training to ensure quality craftsmanship. Having lived in Half Moon Bay and now San Luis Obispo County with his wife and daughter, Manuel is originally from the Azores Islands off the coast of Portugal.

With experience in both residential and commercial construction, Issac’s background covers all phases of the building process. His knowledge of code compliance and permitting, combined with experience under multiple general contractors, allows him to support projects from start to finish. Currently studying civil engineering, Issac adds a technical, detail-oriented approach to every project.

With a strong artistic background and a passion for thoughtful, functional spaces, Gina brings creativity and attention to detail to every project. Currently enrolled in the New York Institute of Art and Design interior design program, she draws inspiration from music, ceramics, and the outdoors, bringing a warm and thoughtful perspective to each space she helps create. In her time off, you’ll likely find her hiking in the foothills or strolling the beach with a guitar.

SLObispo Remodelers runs an in-house team: co-owners, project lead, interior designer, project manager, and crew, with each of our project leads having extensive trade-specific experience. In-House Design-Build

Our in-house interior designer handles layouts, selections, mood boards, and 3D renderings. We coordinate directly with our architect and engineering partners on permit-ready drawings. You get a true design-build experience from one team.

Transparent Pre-Construction

Before construction begins, we run a structured pre-construction phase: architectural plans, engineering, interior design, selections, and accurate pricing. The estimate you approve is the price we build to. If unforeseen delays or added structural work comes up during the project, our manager will talk you through the situation and come up with a game plan for how to best reduce any added costs and delays. Our team's goal is to keep your project on budget and on time.

Phase One

CONSULTATION & IN-HOME ASSESSMENT

We start with a phone call to understand your scope, timeline, and budget, then schedule an in-home visit. Our estimator walks the space with you, assesses the site, and provides a working price range so you know what to expect before committing to design.

Phase Two

PRE-CONSTRUCTION PACKAGE

Once you're ready to move forward, we open the pre-construction phase: architectural plans, engineering, interior design, material selections, layouts, and 3D renderings. By the end of this phase, you have a complete design and an accurate construction estimate. For projects that require permits, we manage the full submission and approval process with the city and county.

Phase Three

CONSTRUCTION

Once permits clear, our in-house crew handles the build, coordinating every trade, managing all inspections, and keeping your home as livable as possible throughout the project. Our team takes special care to protect the finished surfaces of the home around the working area and leaves your home clean and tidy every day. Our project manager is there to handle any challenges that arise as well as put together any add-ons and change orders that you request.

Phase Four

FINAL WALKTHROUGH

We walk the finished space together, address every item on the punch list, complete final permit sign-off where applicable, and document the finished project. You get the home you signed up for, fully built, fully cleaned, fully done.

Construction for a whole home remodel typically runs 4 to 9 months depending on scope. Add 8 to 12 weeks of pre-construction (design, selections, engineering) and any permit timeline set by the city or county. We'll give you a realistic timeline before you sign anything.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. The initial phone consultation and in-home assessment are both free. After the assessment, we provide a preliminary quote so you can decide whether to move into the pre-construction phase.

Yes, SLObispo is a design-build firm with an in-house interior designer. Layouts, selections, mood boards, and 3D renderings are all done by our team. For projects that need architectural drawings or engineering, we coordinate directly with our long-standing partners; you don't have to manage three separate firms.
